Formspring: “I noticed that you have some serious beef with the movie (500) Days of Summer. Why why why why why would that be?”

500 Days of Summer was a sloppy attempt at a romantic comedy deconstruction masquerading as something revolutionary. Are you an adorable romcom or are you trying to show what’s wrong with adorable romcoms? Make up your fucking mind.

I also didn’t feel anything for either character. They were both treated like test subjects, right down to the nature documentary-esque voiceover that described them. Instead of a heartbreaking tale of a guy who gets a rude awakening after thinking he’s found the perfect girl, I felt like I was watching a pair of frowny-faced coat hangers modeling the Urban Outfitters catalog.

Basically, if I wanted to watch Annie Hall (and I did), I would have watched Annie Hall (and I did, right after I watched this). I like my postmodern takes on romance a little jewier, a little funnier, a little more authentic, and with a little more substance behind them.

The Hall and Oats scene was nice though. I mean, I’m not made of stone.

Am I Wrong?
